Meet Kerri
Hi! Thank you for stopping by to visit! My name is Kerri and I started blogging in 2009 when my second daughter was born. Since then I have returned to teaching full time in the classroom but I still have a passion for blogging.
I love coffee, all things rustic, vintage, clean eating and simple living.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon
While my husband was at work, my two year old napped and my eight month old did her usual, I worked on fixing some photos I took a while ago for my Etsy shop.
I use Webresizer to resize the photos for Etsy, but decided I would try some of the other features to improve my photos.
It comes as no surprise that I need to work on my photography AND computer skills.
At least I have a chicken and potatoes roasting in the oven.
I have included some of the photos that I worked on today.
I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Sunday!

Change is coming!
(Photo from mochatini.com)
I really had a lot of things swimming in my head today. I really need some positive changes and I know it will only come if I seek God. And do you know what? HE already answered!
First, I went to the lovely Lissa's blog Humble Pie and her post today was exactly what I needed. Yes Lissa, God is AMAZING! And please check out her blog to see her inspiring new artwork she picked up this weekend.
Next I went over to my friend Tara's blog, blondiensc. She also has a wonderful way with words and her post is very powerful today.
Finally, my childhood friend Lisa has a quote today which I want to share with all of you:
"When life gives you LIMES, adjust the letters and share a SMILE."
Change really is coming!

Life Before Children
Everyone always says your life will change forever when you have children. This couldn't be more true! The sleepless nights. Endless diaper changes. Toddlers with energy like the Energizer Bunny.
Other things have changed too. When I didn't have children, I had time to select clothes and even find jewelry to match. I still have my jewelry collection, but it doesn't see daylight very often. It is sits all alone in my drawer, packed away in individual boxes and ice cube trays that hold my earrings and keep them organized.
I am hoping once life settles down a bit(ok, maybe I am dreaming!) and my two year old and 8 month old allow me five minutes to get dressed or even take a shower, perhaps I can enjoy some jewels once again.
For now, I am just going to enjoy these photos I found and a few pieces I have for sale in my Etsy store.

Apron Love
Charming. Whimsical. Colorful. Sweet. Playful. Sassy. Fun. Lovely. What more can I say? I have a thing for aprons!
I have added a few cute vintage aprons to my Etsy shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/shabbychic72. Of course, I think it is going to be hard to part with them. Aprons make any kitchen so warm and cheerful. They are the perfect way to change your home decor. They are such a simple way to add color to the kitchen. And it is really easy to change them for a different look (or just an excuse to buy more!)
I was wondering if anyone else has a thing for aprons?

Fly-Ats
If Old Man Winter hits hard and I lose electricity, I should be all set with light. My two year old daughter has somewhat of an obsession with fly-ats(a.k.a flashlights). She doesn't twirl it around, watching the light. She simply likes to turn them on, hold them for a few minutes, and then walk away leaving it on.
First it started with mommy's Curious George fly-at.
Then daddy bought her a princess fly-at of her own.
This, of course, was not good enough. She only likes "daddy fly-ats". So daddy went out last night and bought, yet another, fly-at. This one is a mini-replica of daddy's Craftsman fly-ats.
I am thinking maybe I can fit this into my home decor somehow?

A Few Little Things I Love on Etsy
This has been a very long winter even though we have not gotten as much snow in the Northeast as the Midwest has received. I have really been wanting a little pitcher to put some flowers in (even though I have plenty of vases, every girl needs a cute little pitcher, doesn't she?) and I found this one on Etsy. I love the color!
I am really starting to dream about my summer garden too. I can't wait for the first tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden! I thought these metal tins were really cute and perfect for the indoors, especially since Old Man Winter is not ready to pack up his bags any time soon!
And my very active two and a half year old is more than ready for warm weather so she can go out outside and play!

Thank You!
I just want to thank Jeanne over at http://bushelandapeck.typepad.com for suggesting this book. (Have you checked our her blog? I absolutely love it, it is such great inspiration!) It was the perfect Valentine's Day gift when I opened her blog last night to read her post. I immediately ordered it online. I think it was the perfect gift for my husband too because he has to live with me and my anxiety.
And a special thank you to my husband who made me a CD with special songs, including "Our Song" from our wedding, "I just want to be your everything" by Andy Gibb.
I will let you know how the book is when I receive it.

Earth-Friendly and for the Kitchen
As you may already know, I love vintage, thrift shops, being Earth-friendly and of course Etsy. I am pretty frugal and eco-conscious, so these wonderful kitchen scrubbies have become my newest obsession!
I have included pictures from three Etsy shops: Sunshine Grove, thezakka and lakasware. Does anyone else love these as much as me? I just ordered some this week and I am eagerly waiting for them to arrive in the mail!

Freshley Sewn
My aunt just opened a shop on Etsy, http://www.etsy.com/shop/freshleysewn, and I am in the process of placing a special order! After living in my home for 5 years, I have to admit only my living room and bedroom have valances.
So, this past weekend, I went to my local thrift shops and found fabric for my downstairs bathroom window and there is enough material to make a skirt to hide the ugly sink. I also picked up 3 matching pillowcases that will become a valance for my upstairs bathroom and a beautiful valance for my kitchen that looks very expensive and never was used. I also went to the local fabric store and found fabric for my daughter's room for .99 cents a yard and fabric for my bedroom for 2.99 a yard! so for a total of $13.50, I have enough fabric for 6 windows and a sink skirt!
I will post pictures when everything is made!

Black coco betty boutique
I am excited to share with you a fellow vintage shop on Etsy! Meet iconicbetty, owner of Black coco betty boutique. I had a chance to chat with her about her shop and this is what she had to say:
I officially joined Etsy in September of 2009. BUT I didn't post my first item until December of 2009, approximately a month after giving birth to my second child (when I finally had time to post). I started selling on Etsy because I thought it was one of the most organized and interesting outlets for art that I had ever seen. It had ways to improve your technique. And with virtually little overhead cost to sell, it was very easy to get into the Etsy world.
Before Etsy, I was an Active Duty Soldier in the United States Army. As of October 2009, I became a National Guard Soldier. I never could completely give up the military because I grew to serving my country and others. I am also now a houswife and mother to two great kids (under age 5). I have been creating things since I can remember. After hearing people tell me for so long, "that's so cute, you could sell it", I decided that is just what I would do.
To stay motivated when Etsy sales are slow, I remind myself that every successful person had to start somewhere. It is not uncommon for new Etsy sellers to make 50 sales in the first week. So when things are slow, I promote and write about other Etsy sellers. It keeps me extremely motivated when I see other people achieving. I also look at these other great shops and try to model mine off of what they are doing because they are obviously doing something right. In addition, I try to maintain my own individuality, because that is also an element of my creativity.
Right now, this is a full time thing. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom at the moment. I do this every chance I get with baby in tow. I find the time and it drives my husband crazy because every time he sees me I am either on the computer talking to or about Etsy Or behind the sewing machine showing him my maimed creations
I am a slave to fabrics. My favorite shop on Etsy is downshadowlane. I collect fabric scraps and their collection is stellar and large. I LOVE IT.
My favorite website ishttp://themodernbabyco.com. They haven't neccessarily reinvented the wheel, but I have bought scrap bundles from them. But they have defintely put their spin on chic baby products. Like I read on an Etsy blog, it is not always about reinventing the wheel...it is about setting yourself apart.
